Dominion Coal dominion coal

This series of watercolours is inspired by an interest in cars, boats, planes and buildings...our built environment. Most of these document the disappearing landscape, obsolete vehicles in wrecking yards, old storefronts with three dimensional electric banners, aircraft which no longer can fly and marine vessels some still at work. My technique involves painting en plein air, studying and illustrating the view live. I always take plenty of reference photos and retouch my work back in the studio. Most of my work will have an old brand or painted graphic which attracted me in the first place.
